A gunman is holding a school prinicpal hostage at this moment. The school is on lockdown.

A paper was sent home from Erin's school saying they will be performing drills on what to do if the school is attacked. They have to teach these little kids how to hide!!!! Very sad to have to teach children this!!!!! It was never a concern when I was young.

True!! I remember my dad telling me about doing the air raid drills when he was a kid during the war. He lived on the shore of Long Island so they were always on the lookout for German submarines. Kinda puts in perspective.

I don't think any place is safe anymore. Seems there is a threat everywhere you go, anything can happen. I don't want to live my life being afraid to go anywhere or do anything. If something is going to happen so be it. Just have to be mentally prepared for it.

The gunman surrendered.

Still, it's so sad that you have to teach a child in this day and age to prepare for the worst in people. Expect to defend your life little girl!!

Why can't it be reversed somehow. Why can't we balance it out? Good vs. evil?

It is really, i mean, it could happen a hell of a lot more!! it doesn't hurt to teach our kids to be vigilant and know what to do in emergencies. We are a very desensitised speices on the whole, and rely on all the saftey procedures put in place to protect us, which i suppose they do, but sometimes we get a glimpse through the curtain and see real human nature, or real danger, and it scares us.

There has to be a willingness to be as good as there is to be bad. There is FAR TOO MUCH violence in the media and in video games!!
