November has been a month of loss for me with the passing of two of my closest friends - one human and one feline. On November 5, my friend of 24 years, Susan Roesch, passed away suddenly due to blood clots in her heart and lungs. She was a very young 70 and we remained close friends even though we had not seen each other in over 17 years after I moved back to Virginia from New Mexico. She was my first British friend and taught me everything I know about tea, scones, and all things British. At 1:45 AM ET today, my beloved cat, Misty, succumbed to kidney failure, after struggling with several health problems for many months. Misty had been part of our family for most of her 14 or so years. She could be so cranky and crabby sometimes, but also was very sweet and loving, a great companion. Both my friends will be sorely missed, but I am enormously thankful for the privilege of having been a part of their lives for so many years. I will cherish my memories of happy days with them always. Be thankful for every creature, human or otherwise, who blesses your life for a season, no matter the length of that season.
