I would like members to try a little experiment for me. I use Firefox because I find it faster, but I know plenty that use Internet Explorer.

So the little experiment is as follows:

Please type the word England into the Google search box on whichever browser you use and look at the result. On my PC using Firefox the PicturesOfEngland.com website shows up at number six with Wiki showing two pages, the FA showing two pages and News Results for England one page, before POE at number six. This is of course a fantastic result for POE (higher than the official England websites) but when we go to Internet Express and do the same thing we get a different result, why? So now click on Google.com and again type in England . On my PC PicturesOfEngland.com is at number 3, second only to the great Wiki who once again have two pages showing up.

We have tried this little experiment in the same location, a location one mile away from the POE PC (POE HQ) same house, different house, different PC's and get different answers. I would like to know why, whats happening?

Either way, the fact that POE gets more traffic (or so it seems) than the official England website is music to my ears. I just can't understand why the difference in the different browsers, so if anybody has any answers or can shed any light on this at all, I would be very grateful indeed to hear what you have to say.

Internet Explorer 11th;  AOL  10th; Google Chrome 14th; Firefox 11th.

But "England" is a rather vague search term, but qualifying it such as England pictures, Poe then come up No. 1 on Google Chrome.

Nearly 60,000 people per month search for England pictures or less popular, in reversed words with Google. Wouldn't Poe come up number 1 on all those searches?

Thanks Paul. This is very strange and it's difficult to understand whats going on within the search engines. Apart from your observations as above POE in Firefox for me comes up (as mentioned) at number 6 (number 3 at Google.com) yet you say its 11th with you. I will wait to see if anything else comes to light before further comment, but very strange indeed don't you think?

Hi Ron:  I think the way searches run also differ from country to country.  The engines use key words, so when I type in "England" one of the links on the first page is "New England Patriots."  (An NFL football team).  On my computer, I use Firefox and the only search box goes to Google.  On Google, if you search for "England," POE is the first link on page 2 of the search.  If you search for "England pictures," it's the first link on the first page.

When I search on Internet Explorer, it takes me to the Yahoo search England and POE isn't listed at all under "England" or "England pictures," at least not on the first 3 pages.

Internet Explorer - POE is number 3

I wonder if it has anything to do with how often a particular user goes to the POE site? If you frequent the site it may show up closer to the top?

Just trying it with Bing, and Poe comes up 6th with just England or number 1 with pictures added to it. Google keeps track of how many times you've visited a site after searching for it. Is there anything Google doesn't keep track of ????
