Paul - when we see you next you will have to discuss films with Terry - think you will have a lot of favourite ones in common particularly the spagetti westerns!

Think Rob would have alot in common with my husband too - he is a big John Wayne fan especially as he reminds him of his late father.

Terry collects films - we have 1000's of the things! Not looking forward to locating a place for them in the new house which is smaller than this one!

Shirley - musicals are my guilty pleasure! I have fond memories of dancing around the floor with dusters on my feet to the sound track of The King and I (this was the clever way Mom used to clean our wooden floors and make it a fun job!)

I have lots of favourites. Here are a few:

Tunes of Glory (1960--Alec Guinness)

Paths of Glory (1957--Kirk Douglas)

Glory (1989--Matthew Broderick, Denzel Washington)

Well, I've gloried in those titles . . . here are some more:

The Uninvited (1944--Ray Milland) - Best ghost story ever!

The Searchers (1956--John Wayne)

The Quiet Man (1952--John Wayne) - My favorite John Wayne film.

She Wore a Yellow Ribbon (1949--John Wayne)

Three Godfathers (1948--John Wayne)

You might assume that I really like John Wayne--actually I only like John Wayne in films directed by John Ford, who was able to really draw out Wayne's inner talent and not just surface bravado.

Other faves:  Pride and Prejudice (all of them), French Kiss, How Green Was My Valley, The Blind Side, Love Actually, Notting Hill (actually, anything starring Hugh Grant), Goodbye Mr. Chips, to name a few.

We saw Braveheart when we were in LA at Mans Chinese Theater. There was a homophobic demonstration going on outside - I had never seen anything like this in the UK at the time. Then when we went in to watch the film everyone was cheering when they killed anyone English. You might know Terry had got an England Rugby shirt on - wondered if we would get out alive!

Seems like eons ago, and it is, but one film I enjoyed at the time was To Sir With Love, with LuLu, Sidney Poiter. I think I liked it the most because it was shown at a time, in the states, that was bordering on changes, and changes for the better-as far as attitudes were concerned. The film itself was ok, but the messages of change were spot on ! Sidney, at that time, was probably the only actor to have played that part as well as he did.
