Krissy, I haven't seen Like Water for Chocolate since it was released in (I think) 1992. I do remember it as being pretty hot! It was an interesting look at how women were controlled in families and how passion was suppressed. If I recall, Tita, the main character, is able to literally express her repressed emotions through the food she cooked for the family. So, do you prefer dubbed or subtitled foreign films? |

Has anyone seen "Very Annie Mary" (2001)? It's a funny, quirky little Welsh film about a very shy and repressed young woman (Rachel Griffiths) who decides to radically re-make her life. Ioan Gruffudd ("Amazing Grace," "Horatio Hornblower," etc.) and Matthew Rhys are hilarious as Hob and Nob, her gay friends. Jonathan Pryce plays her repressive, overbearing father. It's a real gem! |
