"schooldays are happy days..."

?????????????????? says who?

I see and enjoy the banter, I have sooooooooooooooooo missed the very English sense of humour and love it on POE.  But really when grown adults are making such an issue of bullying that it makes national news, that to me is pathetic.  Don't like it, can't stand up to it, then leave the d... job.  I did at age 16 in my very first job when it reached physical bullying.

Ah, thats a relief; so it wasn't a sly poke at Peter and I then CathyML? Lol

Bullying is totally out of order in any walk of life in my opinion. Having experienced it with one of our grandchildren, I felt like I wanted to be the bully to correct the nasty attacks on his person but that  would have made me just as bad. In fact we took it all the way to the top, including then Prime Minister Tony Blair and the Crown Prosecution Service after many other avenues had all failed him. We got nowhere (despite our grandson having been stabbed in the head) and the perpetrator got away without so much as a caution, and yes this was during 'happy schooldays'! How can that be right?

I don't believe in any form of bullying, whether it be physical or mental, at school or in the workplace.  Unfortunately, in the present climate, it is not easy to walk out of your job and find another.

However, I do not agree with the huge amounts of compensation that have been handed out in the past for relatively trivial complaints.  The compensation culture has gone mad in this country.

I remember a while back, i was a floor Manager and one of my female floor supervisors was in dispute as to the way she thought she should be doing a particular task. (She was already annoyed that I had won promotion to the post instead of her). I invited her to accompany me to the senior Managers office to try to sort the problem. I stood there while she had her say to the senior Manager and her language wasnt that of a lady. Had I used such bad language I sure would have been charged with bullying, sexual discrimination, etc, etc. my boss reluctantly gave into her, later saying to me that he was frightend of saying anything wronge to her in case she should claim that we wasnt treating her fairly. Bullying comes in all forms.
