I'm not a theatre goer, so mostly have only seen Shakespeare on screen, cept for a performance of Hamlet, performed here at Oxford in the open, although I posses a few books of some plays.

I think the man was a genius with language. I usually sit at a blank screen trying to work out how to word stuff, but that is where sometimes Shakespeare is a help to me, for then I take on his guise,as though wearing a mantle, his style from ages passed transcending all modern usage of words doth infect my brain, such that those who read my letters think me at least to be somewhat strange, if not presently mad.

So then for me to say, I am familiar with few of his works, save for a few plays, which jocund as they are, even the histories and tragedies maketh joy to watch, especially if the players be hearty of performance.

First among actors for me, though I have seen few performances, is John Finch. I have his Macbeth, and his Bollinbroke from that second Richard of so profaned a name, wither I do now post hastily the first act.

Very nice links, TheHermit.  I like Shakespeare like that, when it's done in its period.  The last couple of times I went to Shakespeare, they were set in modern times and I think they ruin it when they set Shakespeare in another era.  I think their point is the timelessness of the plays, but it's just not the same, and a bit distracting from the beauty of the language.  Only my opinion, though.
