All registered candidates are in the 'run-up' to polling day on Thursday 6th june 2010. In the UK we vote for a 'party' to gain control of runing the country for another four years, unlike the voters in the United States who campaign for an individual to be elected President. The leader of the party polling the highest number of representitives (Members of Parliment or MP's) will lead the Country for the next four years. As the UK economy climbs out of the world recession and green shoots are appearing the choice of leader will determin the if we continue to climb, or fall back into the 'pit'. Do we vote for the 'New'- Labour Party whos leader 'nursed' us through the recession on a slow but steady course, knows the 'market' and is a respected world player. Not a 'pretty' face and like most humans makes the odd Gaff. Do we vote for the 'New'- Conservative Party whoose 'baby-kissing' smooth Public School type leader has promised the 'moon' but said he will cut public spending and take £6 billion from the economy from day one in a time of renewed growth. Do we vote for the Liberal Party with their fresh-faced, honest type 'game show host' leader who offers amnesty to illeagal immigrants already in the country and the scrapping of ID cards. While the world looks on (some with interest, some not), this is the choice the British public face this Thursday. There are other parties in the race of course but these will only pick-up protest votes and probly not make much difference to the outcome. |

I've not mentioned the fact that most of the media has now allied themselves with the rightwing, be they Conservatives or the BNP. Should these parties take power then Britain will finish the same way of Iceland, Ireland, Greece, Portugal, Spain, Italy, etc., effectivly bankrupt. You dont withdraw the medication when you are only halfway to full recovery! |
