Jason, if I remember rightly you are a paramedic (or similar) and of course I don't mind the question. Wish I could give you answer! Doctors and nurses DO NOT THINK that patients or family have a need to know these things!!!! But, if I understand the situation correctly, his pulse was leaping about all over the place (arythmic??) (anywhere between 200 beats and 60 beats) and they felt they needed to steady it so they tried a quick shock - it didn't work, but overnight the medications did, and now the pulse only seems to be moving between the 70's and 80's depending on what he is doing. He now has a thoracic surgeon (who is a professor), a physician and a cardiologist - and in intensive care - so as you say it sounds as though he is in good hands. We just hope and pray! |

I have just returned from my second visit today and Mike's vital signs are virtually stable, physiotherapy is exhausting him, but pethadine is keeping the pain at a more comfortable level. I can relax a little more now and hopefully get a better sleep. My son is visiting this evening so I hope to catch you all later for a little "light relief". To everyone who has kept the prayers, thoughts and messages coming may you all be richly blessed for your kindness.
