As you know ..this comes with an small flashlight with five buttons that the child punches as pictures dictate to do.. as the adult reads the story...the flashlight is used on fold outs in the story to create an "Shadow" behind them on the back of the page...the top of the page has glow in the dark stars also. These books have replacable button cell batteries so they can be replaced and the book used an good many time. Well worth the money spent. The story content is Thomas being scared on an "run" through the woods to deliver his goods on an dark evening...where he suspects there are ghosts and an ghost train that turns out to be anything but that. We used this book for several grandsons at night in general for entertainment...not just for Holloween. I usually don't promote books...but for those of you looking for ideas for the wee ones...this can help....without scaring their socks off them. Reember the movie "Wizzard of Oz"well I saw it the first time when I was small and I mean to tell ya the "Wicked Witch of the wes"t use to scare me half to death back then. |

Would have made a great avatar! Halloween is virtually unknown/uncelebrated over here, it might be used for a theme for a party but no trick or treating or pumpkins, ghoulies or ghosties or things that go bump in the night. LOL!

We have made it into an "family" neighborhood thing up here..at least while they are small and under about 10 years old. It's become the "start" of the winter Holidays...and its not about" evil" either. It could though be as much any weekend day.... then just the last day of the month. It's the first effort ditch to say hi to everyone in the area if your an working person daily. Time to see the liitle ones all dressed up. One of our Native American lodges with an cascino has an party for the guests every year...though it's not really an Native American Holiday...we all use orange outdoor lights also..mini lights. Sometime clear or green or purple lights...house over one street has an huge spider that is crawling over their roof. Driveway is lined with caskets and blow up monsters in it...flip open the lid back and forth. Not to much blood an gore these days. That kind of stuff is reserved for adult parties somewhere outside the neighborhood..usually inside of an establishment. If the wee kids are out and back home by 9 pm..the adults can get babysitters and do their own thing. I had fun with my hubby one year...I was younger back then also...but I had on my black mini-skirt with net stockings and long blonde wig and black leather jacket...and button that said..."Blazon Hussy"..and he dressed in his London Fog rain coat and police inspector hat liek inspector Cruso and had an huge round like spy glass looking things over...he'd come up tme and I'd stick out an sexy leg and he'd inspect it up and down with his spy glass..while I be chomping on bubble gum..."hussy" like... and smiling....then he'd handcuff me..smile broadly.. an we'd leave together to another area of the party. Some guy came by an whispered in his ear and said something...I asked him later on what he said...he said "I'd like to find an "Blazon Hussy" before the night is out!"..and we both laughed. We were there long enough to have an couple of drinks as we played our routine for others watching us.. and then left..it was fun for the evening. I think the best costume I've ever seen though has go tto been Jessie's "piggy" outfit...she had dyed an pair of men's white long-handled underwear "Pink",,,I think they call them "union suirts" because they are one piece...an sewn baby bottle nipples...six of them up and down the suit and found an piggy "nose" mask for it all. This grandmother herself had an passel of kids she'd raised through the years....it was funny seeing her and knowing how terrible she is in being an totally "sensible" parent at all times..esp nipping on an drink. It's never about how much you spend for the costume as it is how "shocking" funny it is from your normal self. Jessie even had the cutest litle curly tail behind,it stretched out if you were lost... and she'd show you the way through the crowd.... as you held on. For us..its an party time amoung our local neighbors and freinds for the most part...all kids right along with us also....whatever the ages. |

Bob T Posts: 934 Joined: 8th Jan 2009 Location: USA | quotePosted at 14:25 on 3rd November 2010 Jim Hill and his new wife, Betty, are vacationing in Europe, near Transylvania. They drive in a rental car along a rather deserted highway. It is late, raining very hard and Jim can barely see the road in front of the car. Suddenly, the car skids out of control. Jim attempts to control it, but to no avail; the car swerves and smashes into a tree. Moments later, Jim shakes his head to clear the fog. Dazed, he looks over at the passenger seat and sees Betty unconscious, with her head bleeding. Despite the rain and unfamiliar countryside, Jim knows he has to get her medical assistance. He carefully picks her up and begins trudging down the road. After a short while, he sees a light and heads towards it, which is coming from a large, old house. He approaches the door and knocks. A small, hunched man opens the door. Jim blurts, "Hello, my name is Jim Hill and this is my wife Betty. We've been in a terrible accident, and my wife has been seriously hurt. Can I please use your phone?" "I'm sorry," replies the hunchback, "but we don't have a phone. My master is a doctor. Come in, and I will get him." Jim brings his wife in. An older man comes down the stairs. "I'm afraid my assistant may have misled you. I am not a medical doctor; I am a scientist. However, it is many miles to the nearest clinic, and I have had some basic medical training. I will see what I can do. Igor, bring them down to the laboratory." With that, Igor picks up Betty and carries her downstairs, with Jim following closely. Igor places Betty on a table in the lab. Jim collapses from exhaustion and his own injuries, so Igor places him on an adjoining table. After a brief examination, Igor's master looks worried. "Things are serious, Igor. Prepare a transfusion." Igor and his master work feverishly, but to no avail. Jim and Betty Hill are no more. The Hills' deaths upsets Igor's master greatly. Wearily, he climbs the steps to his conservatory, which houses his grand piano. It is here that he has always found solace and he begins to play. A stirring, almost haunting melody fills the house. Meanwhile, Igor is still in the lab tidying up. His eyes catch movement, and he notices the fingers on Betty's hand twitch, keeping time to the haunting piano music. Stunned, he watches as Jim's arm begins to rise, marking the beat. He is further amazed as Betty and Jim both sit up straight! Unable to contain himself, he dashes up the stairs to the conservatory. He bursts in and shouts to his master: "Master, Master!.....The Hills are alive with the sound of music!" |
