When prices get high enough one of two things will happen...they will start tapping into the places on earth that oil is more expenisve to process..such as the huge reserve around the north in the states of Dakota and into Canada...or we wil find an alternative soucrce of energy and use more of it instead..such as the electric car...which are now top dollar pricing to squeeze every dime out in behlaf of gasoline cars. What MADE the name Toyota...and Honda... in the years past ....but the fact they sold thier new cars about half the price of american auto makers. The gas wars in the 70's helped to stabilze them into the market forever... as they got higher miles per gallon. They still do and they still sell for that reason also.

Due to the size of  America, driving is the primary means of transport for people, thus, prices for gas/petrol will be premium because they know the options are not many. Rail, Air and Bus transport are yet to be met with the type of transport program that would meet the needs of the average americans. Distance plays a big role in the plan. The answer has been personal autos for years and the manufacture of them has become and continues to be a major injustry in america.

Is it rip off in Britain for the prices paid in Britain on the petrol they use ? For the most part....yes....because the money grabbers have gotten a taste of what they can get for petrol and greed has become a major factor in the equation.

It has been announced that commuters will have to pay a lot more for train travel. Prices are to be hiked by some 6% which is double the inflation rate right now! How on earth can they justify that?

Rip Off Britain again!!

I think it's robbery when our main means of trnsport, for those of us who either don't drive by choice or can't drive due to other reasons (medical or legal) but to charge what they do to take public transport, which we pay for already with our taxes) , is robbery and should be illegal, not to mention ..immoral.

Holidays! Its cheaper to buy a packaged  2 weeks holiday in the mediteranean than spend a week on the UK coast (or London)!

The knee-jerk reaction is typically to scream at the oil companies. However, just as in the US, the bulk of that price per liter is tax levied by your government. The only way to reduce the price at the pumps is for the government to reduce the tax...and Maggie Thatcher will be elected PM again.
