So now the waste collectors (Bin Men, or Dustmen) are on strike!

I say quite simply get back to work, collect the rubbish that is overflowing on our streets, or hand your jobs to those who will work!

I have no doubt that there are plenty that would be very happy to be in employment!!

What do you think members, is it right to go on strike just because you don't get your own way? I reckon they are like baby's who want to throw their dummy's out of the pram!!

Boo hooo, we want more money and better working conditions! Don't we all?

You make me laugh Ron....I guess because your right in what your saying. Utilty companies use to be an affordable service industry...do you remember those days?...I do. Now it costs to much to throw much away any more....but they force you to have the service every month...and pay for whatever they want to charge for the most part...bad..bad..bad.....everyone should provde opportunities for others that can't pay these higher costs...so no one goes without help. Remember when we use to backyard" burn" weekly and compost..I do. Don't let decorator Christopher Lowell get his hands on your silver garbage cans...he will make ulpolstered seated Patio table and chairs out of them... that have an really spiffy modern "industrial" look to them.

It never ceases to amaze me that people will take on a job knowing full well what the pay and conditions are, then as soon as they have been in the job a while they start bitching about it. 

Meanwhile have they added anything extra to the job to warrant any sort of increase??? Did they come up with ideas to make the job better/easier/quicker or more cost effective????  Where do they think the additional money will come from anyway??

If they don't like it then they are free to go look for something else and give someone else a chance!!

Amen to that one...cathy....I totally agree. Maybe, just once, people will think twice when they are put out of work for their attitude whilst working. NO ONE forced them to take on the job they are fortunate enough to have, so let them move on to some job they will be happy with. Everyone needs money to survive in this world, but, in my opinion, many take on debts far more than their paychecks allow, and this is not from necessary, but from want, desire personal choice/greed. Sorry, but I don't support the attitude that greed is justified.

There are certain jobs which are necessary and holding the public hostage to payscales in excess of normal, should justify the right to release that person from the position and set them free to find something more suited to their desires...not their needs.

As long as the pest control people don't strike, you should be ok!!

But seriously....how many people out of work and they complain? I don't like my job but I am very grateful to have it!!

should be illegal for them to strike, when performing a service vital to humankind.....maybe they can be replaced by someone willing to collect the trash and deposit it in the very same waste disposal sites being used by our councils...hmmmm....

Reminds me of a story, Ron.  Ages ago, (I think maybe in the sixties or seventies) the New York City sanitation department went on strike, just around the Christmas holidays.  One clever fellow took all the trash that was piling up around his house and put it in boxes, gift wrapped them, loaded his car, and parked his unlocked car in a not so desirable neighborhood.  Thieves, of course, made off with all his "presents," so it was a win for him and a win for justice. 

my bin-men have not been on strike but have been well behind due to weather conditions,they turned up this morning at 7-15 am after no pick up since the 17th december.

the ammount of spillage on the fronts is unbelieveable gone are the days when they used to brush it up before they drove off.
