I'm working for a major international oil company and have many colleagues from all over the world. In this business everybody speaks english (althoug the French with a terrible accent) so for the native English speakers there is no need to learn an extra language.

At the moment I have one colleague from England who is speaking Dutch very well. So it is possible but exeptional.

Languages are limited in our schools. It's either Spainsh, French or Italian. And they are not taken very seriously. Samantha's dad side of the family is Colombian so she should be able to speak spanish but she doesn't try. She is not taking advantage of it. Currently learning Latin and getting straight A's!!

I didn't mean to suggest that English people couldn't learn another language, but it does seem to be unusual for them to do so as you say Ted.

My own son is fluent in German, Afrikaans and Zulu (so I know they can!) - unfortunately his Latin didn't help in Italy though, lol.
