Still nowhere to put that other three feet since the last couple of storms. Spring and sailing season can't come soon enough. Well, at least I'll be out of here for a week on the 4th of Feb; Carribean cruise. A week away from the snow! Cheers, Bob |

I've lost so much time at work due to snow days and delayed opening and early dismissals. Not to mention how much my muscles hurt at the moment from all the shoveling. I've had enough. |

It teaches the art of preparing for the change of seasons also..during the fall and before the Holidays. It beats what's been going on out here couple weeks ago...when we had two weird days of heavy rain...with the snow melt from it... it amounted to about 10 inches of rain coming off the mountain....and it did in an delunge of water...the Sandy River overflowed...and the stream became an raging torrent that changed it's own course....and went down LOLO Pass road...taking out trees, houses and road with it...stranding 250 people. Emergency services have been in the area for two weeks now trying to repair the area so the people can get back and forth. Imagine your nice mountain home one day and then being "part of the river" the next day. Has never ever happened before now...despite flooding in years past at times. Many of those people have lost an lot of working days also...some could barely get out with the help of ATV's...they worked on rescuing the old folks first...the water of course flows to the ocean..and half of the Oregon coast line was either shut off for flooded streams or landslides. Count your blessings to have an warm, safe and dry house to go to these days. Here's receipe for you to serve with soup or stew to warm you up an bit....pepper cheesestix.... Heat oven to 450 degrees....combine 1 cup uncooked Quaker oats.(.old fashioned or quick cooking.)..1 cup all-purpose flour...1/3 cup of Romano or Parmesan cheese....1 tabelspoom bking soda, 1 tsp black pepper, 2 tablespoons chopped chives or 1 teaspoon dried....cut in 3 tablesppon butter until it makes course crumbs and add in 3/4 cup of buttermilk...stir together...and on an lightly floured surface knead 10 times..make an rectangle about 1/2 inch thick and cut into 4 inch--1/2 inch thick slices. place on an ungreased baking sheet and brush with an egg white...bake 10-12 minutes and serve warm. Can be made ahead and sealed in an bag and frozen up to 5 months in the freezer. Says it goes well with fresh salads, soups or by themselves as bread sticks. Enjoy! (HInt:...you can buy powdered buttermilk for baking these days as well as the Quaker oats and dried chives, or grow some in your kitchen....and you should not have to go out in the cold for grocery shopping to much while its storming...don't forget an good book to read, game to play or some hot chocolate) |

I can't even imagine where we are going to put all the snow. It's so cold that none of the snow from previous storms is melting which means we have 7 feet walls down each side of the side walks and most residential roads are down to one lane driving! Arrrrgggggg! |

The snow banks are so high so you cannot see around them!!! It's horrible! I have to give a lot of credit to the crew that does our snow removal. They work so hard and long long hours in the cold and I am sure they are not compensated as well as they should be!! Next storm I am serving coffee for them!!

Hood where there is snow. In the meantime...things are coming out of dormancy here...all the buds are coming out on everything...including my fruit trees...we still have two months left to go before they should be dong this. Some of the "seers" say that we will be in an little min-ice age before people are roaming around suffering from starvation in the years ahead..... Let's hope that can be prevented. |
