Every time I"ve been there I could never see the appeal. It's crowded, the Pacific Ocean is ice cold, and once you go 10 miles inland from the shore, it's almost as hot in summer as it is in the Arizona desert. And Ron, having read your report of Weymouth, there are a lot of cheap and tawdry tourist beaches there too - particularly Santa Monica. And Hollywood - slummy, dirty, and looks like any ordinary rundown town that's seen its better days - not what you'd expect. |

They returned years later but not with me..by then I was married and work work work!. Then there was the tornado and downpour outside Kasas City on one of our trips...liked to scared me to death. Same for driving at night leaving Utah to climb the mountains during their flood year...I had NO idea what was going to happen...as I watched churning broiling water flowing along side of me and an all kinds of warning signs and an small one lane road to cross...I had no idea if there was an road on the other side. We had taken this route because the truck stop we had stopped at for the night had an steady line of truckers with hookers drinking and doing parking lot bedroom activites going on until we were half scared of the drunks and mistrustful as to what could happen possibly.I've had bad times going to the next town up our highway also...such as went the car engine... blew an rod I think it was...cyclinder?..I forget now. It cost me over $500 TO DRIVE NOT 10 MILES!..again stranded...no one would help us we could trust...day sof no cell phones. I went to an scout outting up at Mt. Hood wasn't the greatest either one time. There's nothing like an mountain lion, and pack rat in the cabin, and smelly people with gas half the night long....they had me in tears practicaly by the time we left...maybe it was the lack of sleep..I think I would of killed the " pack rat" bare handed if I could of gotten my hands on it...perhaps the mountain lion "me" vice versa. Badger Lake was not the cream of the crop either one year. Had we not gotten out when we did, I know we would of probably had to been rescued...we got to the top out of the "bowl shaped" lake...it think was the inside of an old volcano....and it started snowing...had we been 1/2 hour later we probably would of never made it out....dirt road..no 4-wheel drive. Then there was the time we were over at the coast...on the side of an sheer cliff.... whizzing along and one of those big black bumble bees flew in the window...and crawled up my dad's pant leg...I thought we were " goners" as he pulled the truck over to get the bee out. Not to mention hubby hitting black ice driving up to see his sister one Thanksgiving....just thinking about it...I tend to want to feel myself to know I'm still alive. We bounced around an four lane curve against the roadside railing over-hanging an ravine with an river down along side of it in the process doing circles in the road an hitting first the front end and then the back end...and finally came to an stop with the bumper up on the guard rail. My son was but an baby. So my days have had thier nasty times also. That last incident started in our lives an" hell" that lasted for years in things happening to us. We have never really recovered from its effects as yet..some 32 years ago. Bad vibes. Wish they'd go away!!! |
