We've talked about these before, but there are just so many.  Post something from your region.

Here's one from James

Jackbits - Lancashirian (or is that Lancashire-ese) for food.

Ruth, Thanks for starting this thread. It's very interesting to me. I'd love to hear more from all different areas. I was trying to think of any unusual phrases from where I live, but there's none I can think of other than on the east coast soda is soda, but in the Midwest it's always pop. Or here it's a hoagie, in Philadephia it's a sub. Then there's wimpies.....Just thought of monkey meat which has nothing to do with a monkey. Some people here use that term for ground ham and pickle relish mixed together.

Yes, great idea for a thread, Ruth.

Wicked - is New England slang used to describe something that is devilishly awsome, very cool, extreme, or clever, ie:

That's a wicked-looking dagger you've got there!

That was a wicked roller-coasted ride!

Your  hairstyle is totally wicked!

Wicked is very widely used here as well Diana, mostly by the young people.

Tourists, or anyone not local, are known in Devon as Grockles.

A couple more New Englandisms:

Pissah - Really neat, similar to wicked; That party last night was pissah!

Tonic - Soda, Coke, Pepsi, Sprite, etc. NOT TONIC WATER. When we refer to tonic water we simply say tonic water.
