WOW Shirley, I'll make a note of that and try to visit. How exciting!! Thanks for the info. It's a shame we all d on't live close together, I can imagine long evenings around the bon fire listening to Shirley's tales!!  

"Coast to Coast" has two such story tellers as guests from England also, one an historian, and one an book author....fascinating to listen to them also and he ususally gives them the whole evening. It rather bothers me at time making such long postings...but you need the whole story to understand it..."boring" history is names and dates only....true.. they are important also...but the travels and thier lives are what counts to me. Hey, it made the movie "Titanitc" all that more interesting...and it was supposedly and true story.

Go to the web site reddit.com and read the article(posted couple days ago) from the link at The Nation.com about what they are going to teach the kids in American History this year in Texas...no more George Washington,and Thomas Jefferson, and Benjamin Franklin...it's going to be about lesser known ethinic groups/people. Nor is it going to be about our Constitution. You will have to read the article. It's not looking favorable to the teaching institution in some ways. I would guess they think the the students were exposed to our founding father's earlier maybe? Not sure if it's good or not, you can only have so much to teach on people though...that is true. In the meantime  our newspaper says this morning roughly 6,800 Oregon High School students (seniors) have as yet to pass the state reading test if they want an diploma at the end of the year. Most teachers willbe working with that aspect this year.
