Some months ago the good ol' BBC aired a program called 'secret Britain', presented by Matt Baker and Julia Bradbury. The BBC reseases a lot of their programs on DVD and I wonder if this 3 part docu is available in the shops over there (I mean the UK)? I asked the question on the BBC website, but they won't answer.

I want to order them (if available on dvd) but they (Belgian shops) usually don't import those dvd's.

Can someone tell me if it's on DVD?

If its only been a few months since it was on TV, they may not have released it yet, but it could be in the works.

I followed your link, James. I could go crazy buying DVD's about the English countryside. The ones I have are COAST and Alan Titchmarsh's The Nature of Britain. They are WONDERFUL!

Patrick--I think you'll find Secret Britain was four 1 hour episodes though the BBC don't seem to be listing it on DVD yet.  There is an alternative that might be of interest of a set showing the wildlife and plants in Britian throughout the seasons. Seems a reasonable price for the DVD set.

Hope next week goes ok Ron.

That looks like a good set, Paul. I'll put in on my wish list.

Patrick, tell me about 'Secret Britain'. What was it about? What did you like most about it that makes you want to buy it on DVD's.

I only caught one episode (4) The Borders and Beyond where Julia goes off to find the so-called  hidden valley in Glen Coe near the Three Sisters hills where the McDonald's had escaped the Cambells during the Battle of Glen Coe; 1692.  Matt went off on a train through the Highlands and got off at a remote station in the middle of nowhere that was once very popular with Victorians and is now all but deserted.

A bit of Glen Coe; the 3 Sisters are as you go through the glen.

There were indeed 4 episodes paul. I still have them on my digirecorder but I rather have them on DVD to play it save. So if anyone sees them, please contact me !

What I like about it, Ron? Well there's so much. It's one of those programs that makes me instantly jealous of the presenters because they've been there. If I was a millionaire I would take some time of and visit all those places the very next day. That remote train station was fantastic, and someone actually sits there behind the desk. In the middle of nowhere ! But there was also a spot on some privat land. Not really a cave but it was a sudden drop down between some trees which hardly any human ever saw. That place was really magical. I have to see them again so I can give you more details about my favorites. Don't hesitate to see this if they decide on a rerun !

I have the book "The Nature of Britain" which I got on amazon for a pittance.  I had no idea what a large book it is!  Of the coffee table variety.  Very enjoyable.  It doesn't appear that the DVD is available in Region 1 though, more's the pity.  I enjoy watching Alan Titchmarsh.  He did a DVD series on English gardens that was very nice, and I miss watching "Ground Force."
