At midday we were all told the company had called in the receivers and we should pack our desks! As we are about to move out of social housing this was a wicked blow! We had set our heart on the cottage in the country we had found to rent. But, thanks to some nifty work on the part of one of the agencies I have worked for, on Wednesday I was called by a guy and offered a job, to start today!! Well, as it's in Luton and I would need to stay there during the week I requested that I start Monday next week which he agreed. This gives me time to start the packing and to find somewhere to stay. So, not all doom and gloom on the employment front, folks. There are jobs out there, albeit short term, so don't despair all of you seekers of work, somewhere someone wants you! Andy |

You must be a first class employee, to have people looking out for you. I hope that the work in Luton goes well for you, and that the time away from home isn't too harsh on you. And good luck with your dream cottage in the country. I hope it all comes to fruition. |

He had an old freind that he had worked with that got him on where he works and has been there ever since...we took an 60 per cent drop in pay starting all over again...he had to cash in his IRA in order to stabalize what we had spent to need this higher income until we could slowly work out of the debts... we took on my son/wife and three little kids..(.since thier wedding day for the most part) but it allowed them free day care while they worked, my son went into trucking school....my brother lived in our trailer for free for an year or so... until he could save an downpayment to buy his own house, start ver from an divorce....and still have my sister, whose on state assistence. But we made it...and of course now we look at retirement...Social Security this January...and hope we can survive. It's been tough going....and of course down the line I had the heart operation also. I paid it off with borrowing against our insurance policy....so I guess you could say that aspect we kissed goodbye also for the car we hoped to get someday...this one we have has 367,000 miles on it...and we have no idea when we will ever beable to afford another one. I feel for you if you got to move in the midst of it all...but I know if we can do it..anyone else can also. Since then he's back at his old job in an way...in being an office worker...and computer Inventory worker for his new boss. He's worked it out to keep working for him except for summers "part time". HIs boss has has an whole staff of such people...older..... on Social Security that need supplmental income....some of the best expereinced men in the field I might add..many of them going on 40 years in the tree nursery business. They help each other and have known each other for years on end in the field they work also. Best of luck just the same. It's really hard when you got some 30 plus years under your belt career wise to be told in one afternoon that the company is closing down immediately. It's like an big "shock" to say it mildly..esp past 50 years old. You wonder at times how your going to "make it"... but you do. |
