Yes, I know what you mean, James.  I don't know too much about him.  We have enough of those "can't print what you think" politicians over here.  It's really bad nowadays, worse than I ever remember it being.

Can't be related to Norman Clegg Ruth, he is one of the best characters ever to grace out TV scenes, along with Compo Simmonite, not forgetting Captain Mainwaring and ALL the Dads Army cast

As for the politics, I'd guess yes, it's worse than it was in the 50s.  As for everything else, so things are better some worse.

Good, I will.  I love it there.

Dave, I couldn't agree more, although I think it's been 30 years or more since I've seen Dad's Army.  Last of the Summer Wine is on Saturday nights here.  I love to watch it because I can't get enough of that Yorkshire scenery.
