Interesting snippet that I heard on the radio yesterday was that Priest Valentine, an Italian, was actually jailed and later beheaded for marrying Christians.

Don't know where they got that from and haven't checked it out, but strange that we celebrate Valentines Day as we do.

Anyway, hope you all had a great day!

I think your story Ron, is more folklore than fact and attributed to Roman Emporer Claudius II who supposedly passed a law forbiding single men to marry. Anyway, the reason being was to increase his army of single men. But he found out a priest Valentine was marrying single men and had him jailed and executed. To embelish the story more, he was then attributed to writing the first Valentine card prior to his execution.

Your version above attributes him to marrying Christians rather than single men. Thus, you can choose which version your prefer.

Thanks for that Paul. It is as it was discussed on radio so I had no more to offer than as written above, but thanks for researching it for us.

Anna's Birthday on the 19th February - I suppose I will have to find the card out from 40 years ago, again! Honest, I did send her one once! LOL
