I'll start and say that I am not superstitious (touch wood ) I do not walk under ladders for the same reason i do not walk in front of a bus.....it is dangerous. My mother, however, reacts with horror if an umbrella is opened in the house. She also will not abide someone rocking an empty rocking chair (that would be a superstition handed down from my Irish great-great-grandmother and survivor of the Great Famine, I suspect, since it seems to be peculiar to the Irish!).
