Saint George's Day is celebrated 23 April which is the traditionally accepted date of Saint George's death in AD 303. So why don't we 'actually' celebrate it, why don't we have this day as a Public Holiday?

I can't think of a better reason for the English to have an official public holiday being awarded, can you?

What do you think fellow POEsters?

I can be bothered, James.

I love to celebrate St. George's Day and will do so today with English dinner and dessert.

I agree with you, Ron, it SHOULD be a public holiday. Heaven's above! You should be here on July 4th. FIreworks, food, parades, and a national (is that the right word?) holiday.

But like James says, people just can't be bothered. Too much work maybe. Or years of not honouring this as a day to celebrate binng turly English.

It's a shame it mostly goes unnoticed, I suspect a big majority of the population don't even know when it is sadly. I think it should be a public holiday.

Note , March 5th is a big date in Cornwall, St. Piran's day is celebrated with marches through towns , some councils close for the day and the main march is across the dunes at Perranporth to the St. Pirans Celtic cross and the Oratory. There is a great deal of enthusiasm and passion of their history and heritage, is a little more needed this side of the Tamar?

We are normally in Padstow for Obby Oss on May 1st Vince, but this year we are having to go in June instead, so we'll be back for it next year.
