Flying out of the packaging and from in between the Grapes (that originated from Egypt) although it's possible they were packed here in the UK these insects were quickly establishing a residence on the kitchen walls, windows etc. Quick!! Close the doors, spray and vacate the room for 30 minutes...Job done and appropriate report to Asda's Head Office and Wheatley store who to their credit appeared to take it seriously, which they need to do. Anyway it's a good opportunity to say "West Nile Virus" to you (yes from Egypt) and other areas. I'm not going into what that's all about you can click the link, but trust me it's nasty especially in the elderly where it can be fatal. See http://www.nhs.uk/conditions/west-nile-virus/Pages/what-is-it.aspx. One thing for sure is that you will be more careful with fruit regardless of where it originates and you must check it every time you unpack, including Bananas for Spiders because they do get through occasionally. We don't have West Nile Virus here yet and don't want it either although the vector, a mosquito has been found in Europe. Needless to say Asda will replace the goods, but if this post educates just a few more people then I call that progress. An opportunity to say join us at http://www.pestcontrol-supermarket.com where we DO NOT guide the consumer to a particular price deal in return for incentives.

The most common item is fresh meat -the customer never sees what goes on before it is served, poultry should always be washed, and as Ron has pointed out fresh fruit as well. |

One can never be too careful. Now as to spiders crawling out of banana boxes, if I ever have that experience you will hear my rebel yell clear across the pond! ;-) |
