Well the bottom line is I won the argument for him (after fighting for about 18 months) and they refunded my mate to the tune of approximately £8,000 and stated that his account was now clear, so job done. They sent him a polite letter explaining what had happened, with an apology, and we thought that was the end of it.

But guess what? They have now sent him a bill for £115.00 for the period 1990 to 2013. You couldn't make it up could you?

The best of it is they say they issued the invoice (which he has never received) referring to a postcode that doesn't exist OX33 ZZZ. It means they sent out a bill for £115.00 for water services, but are unable to work out what he has used, because according to their own statement "we don't have an account for that postcode" so it's just guesswork!

As a matter of interest my mate has a meter installed at the farm in question, but there is no usage so the worst case scenario is a bill for the meter only, but going back to 1990? What a shower of s... 'raindrops'.

I think it means if you are with Thames Water you may need to challenge your water bills, because they make things up!

I have just telephoned Thames Water again, and sorted it out again. They are full of apologies of course, but why does this sort of nonsense have to happen? If it hadn't been for my persistence my mate, who is 83 years of age and can't read or write, would have ended up paying £8k or being taken to Court for it. Thames Water you should be ashamed of yourselves, b....y disgraceful!

Sheesh, Ron! Makes me very happy that my water is supplied by a very deep spring-fed well and not by a water provider!

What about 'Shale Fracking' Rob, does that affect your water?

I'm hearing it does in some parts of the US or is that not the case, maybe a few getting hot under the collar about nothing?

On the other hand...
