I've been watching the latest episodes of Midsomer Murders with Neil Dudgeon as Inspector John Barnaby. I have to admit to missing John Nettles as Tom Barnaby but this new character is very good!

What do the rest of the POElanders think of the change?

Diana, I actually prefer Neil Dudgeon, John Nettles was fine but his dopey wife and daughter used to drive me mad.

We drove through the Midsomers a couple of years ago, there was nobody about, probably all been bumped off Smile

I don't think you can replace actors in a series, it never seems the same again

I think many, many people miss John Nettles who had developed a fan base much earlier in Bergerac before the DCI Barnaby role came along in 1997 for this new TV series which seemed to expand his followers of his acting.. Neil Dudgeon had appeared as a dodgy gardener in an earlier epiosde before a few years later. taking over the lead role.

His side kick, Sgt Jones/Jason Hughes has left after the end of the last series to work in the US and further his career over there. Actor Gwilym Lee has replaced Jason Hughes for the new series currently being filmed.

one of the new stars I enjoy is his Parsons Jack Russell terrier, Sykes, who had been a stray puppy before becoming a film and TV star trained/owned by Gill Raddings. I had the pleasure of photographing Sykes for some Midsomer related products last year. Unfortuneately, I'm not at liberty to publish the photos I took of him anywhere, though some people might have seen them on Midsomer Murders coffee mugs.

Yes I guess a lot of us go through the dipsy stage, also find it more gruesome than the older shows, the dog is a winner forget his name.
