I think that what the Dorset Police are supporting, is in fact illegal.

I understand the need for taxi drivers carrying passengers to be paid, especially by late night drunken yobs or daytime gentry for that matter, but it's not something that I would agree to so I hope the Taxi driver never asks me.

Why do I take this view, well have you heard of the term Sharp Practice?

I seem to remember from the depths of days long gone, that the term Sharp Practice relates to any product or service, where the seller or provider demands money before the product or service has been received by the recipient. In this case the taxi driver is demanding money before the journey is completed.

So there it is members, any legal eagles amongst you, or an opinion?

Would you pay upfront?

Hi Ron

Same old story minority spoiling for the majority maybe a good half way stage would be a  place were the money could be deposited and on view to all till the end of the journey.

The driver at the end of the journey then gives the change  via the till something on the lines of the night tills at fuel stations.

I don't think locking the passengers in remotely till they had paid would go down well with the politically correct brigade either, as some one would bound to sound off about being held illegally.

But if you board a bus, what do you do, you pay before you ride.

Life would be so much easier if some little S - - - played the game and did not try to take a rise out of anyone.

A lot of places now insist on payment first,an example is paying for a meal before you eat it --you try getting a refund if your meal is unsatisfacory --they have you there.

Neil mentioned buses, but most trains and all planes also want payment upfront. As James says, meals are another, most pubs I know want payment upfront, there are so many people out there who like to try to get a free ride or free meal.
