Those old 'wives tales' might be needed again soon. And what plants, animals, insects might hold a clue to any new antibiotics, if we are lucky? Any ideas members, what theories/thoughts do you have?

It's to be hoped they find something I also heard the antibiotics story. It seems we are using derivatives of quite a few poisons now which used to kill us, mustard gas was one that was mentioned in this series. Not sure but I think it was being used to fight some kind of brain disorder. I seem to have ended up with the Australian link, but it's the same programme as aired over here.

And don't forget the Earth is always changing anyway hence the so called 'greenhouse effect' and it will be a totally different place in a few hundred years from the the Earth we know today. |

Old farmers remedy for this complaint Mix 50% White Vinegar with 50% TCP clean daily with sterile pads dipped in the solution used for ulcerated teats on cows. Trouble is he is reluctant to try the old remedy. Ulcers just dry up and disappear Sometimes antibiotics do more harm than good I only take them as a last resort I have taken them less than 10 times in my whole lifetime. But one thing I enjoy is Cayenne pepper which in itself is a natural antibiotic, that and bags of Vinegar on a nice slice of honey combed tripe who need antibiotics? |

The episode on Pus was mainly about Penicillin which of course was discovered in Oxford at the Dunn School on South Parks Road. Unfortunately, the first patient to be treated died, not because of the Penicillin, but because there was not enough of it to complete the course of treatment. I was not aware until watching the programme of the strategic importance of penicillin in the Allied victory in WWII, and the part played by the American Pfizer Company in the mass-production of Penicillin for the war effort.
