One died in the first Battle of the Somme and the other, two years later at the second Battle of the Somme. So young, so innocent, such a waste. Then I remember my Uncle Bert (actually, Great Uncle) brother to the above boys. He passed away November 10th 1983. The last time I saw him was November 9th, selling poppies at our door, as he did every year in honour of his brothers. Its also my Mum's birthday today. Born 11-11-11, she would have been 102 today. I raise my glass to all. |
