We all know about the disaster in the Philippines, terrible doesn't even begin to describe it. The UK Government has said it will send £50 million and will match the public's donation.

British public has donated over £33 million

USA £13.65 million

Ikea's Charity apparently amounts to $2.7 million

China has apparently offered $100,000 latest reports £1 million, but who knows?

Draw your own conclusions of course, but any comments?

It's reckoned it will take at least £190 million to help out here, a daunting task if it's donations as a direct result of requests for help, but what will happen after it's rebuilt? Along comes another hurricane and back to square one?

What would happen it we suffered a similar storm to one that hit us in 1248 - would we get any help I wonder, or are we better prepared for such an event

It seems other Countries are adding to the fund as each day passes.

The tragedy is horrific and the generosity of the UK people / Government is commendable. Sadly the goods do not seem to be getting delivered. However, if Ron's figures are correct, the entire donation from China would not fund the salary of even one UK Charity Chief Executive.

They have now set up chairities over here also, but as I said the many leaving the area are coming over here to live with family...and that should lighten the load an little bit over there. Take my word for it, we could use some charity ourselves these days without an disaster, of which we've had two similar ones in the past ourselves to recouperate from being Hurricane Sandy and Hurricane Katerina. There are still even "bodies" being found from hurricane Sandy from last year in some of the debris. Plus we still have debris incoming from the Japan quake with it's Tuasumi now hitting our coast of Alaska and the west coast....and the Gulf Oil spill still has its problems some days also. It is responsible for stopping the hurricanes down there...cooling the water temperatures so badly they can't pick up power from the warm water as before to create Hurricanes for Texas over to Florida. It was Japan..but now it's china financing most of our debts. How much of us they own is hard to tell, but the recent debt ceiling and it's coming up again in January...they made their statement to get busy and "solve it" pretty plain to most of congress here recently. They sure don' t listen to the American people any more, maybe they will China. They want to fight politically to take the people's mind off their own greed...in fact just about anyone else they rack up... but themselves... for this problem of indebtness. They have already made us give up our pension plans, 401K's and jobs to start back down at minium wages at part time hours.... That is one of the biggest problems of why we have less these days to share with others. They said Jimmy Buffet sold all his retail stock cause he says the American people no longer have any purchasing power to keep the stock market solid...it's running right now on "fake" reports...so people don't panic.

It's wasn't  being shared, so it's like the people that produce things are now their own customers...making their own profit from within themselves instead of others. Others lost their buying abilty with the partime hours and low pay. That's what you get when you set yourself up for all the money hoarding....yourself. Now owner, controller, and profit maker from within thyself.
