Not canals , but there is water close by as you would expect with the type of structure involved

Hmmm, water wheel, power station, reservoir. I expect I'll be waking up at 4am again wondering about this one. Whatever the answer Dave, it's a good one.

Give you another clue     settlements are often near rivers

but you really need to be thinking of what structure, building!!!    as this will guide you to the status ...

My thoughts are heading towards a Roman Fort, but there are so many Roman buildings in Britain I'm not sure Undecided
