I am pleased that you like these pictures. The lens used was the Tamron 70-300mm, however for these particular pictures it was at the 70mm setting. These prticular birds were so tame and came so close that i had to actually push them away, that was the only way could get them into focus. For these close-ups I would have been better off with the standard lens that came with the camera. These bird are in the 'Close encounter' area where the visiting children can feed them by hand. There are other birds at the centre who are not tame and have to be viewed from hides. The Avocets were about 150 yards away across the lagoon and they were photographed at the 300mm setting. In fact i could have done with a longer lens, but then there would have been the problrm of camera shake to get over. There are a lot more pictures to be submitted, but i am having a difficult time in trying to remember which species is which. There was just so many different birds to see. With most of them being from all over the world they are not listed in my old bird book. There were a lot of young children, with their parents visiting the cente that day and you could see the wonder in their faces at being allowed so close to these colourful bird. No doubt they are all future bird watchers in the making. By the way i don't think that i have a photo of myself. I will have to ask Lilian if she has one. If i can find a picture i might do a 'Hitchcock' with it. Regards Roy J. |

And you're right about the thread, I just got a little carried away in my excitement, sorry. I went through all of your pictures, and could only find people in two of them. Is this the shot you are alluding to? Picture by Roy Jackson

Try another search arround Alnwick. No more clues. I have spent most of the morning in the garden with the camera, hoping that the wagtail would reappear, no luck!! I did manage of couple of quick shots of the local birds which i will submit if they are decent. Regards Roy J. |
