From your photos, you nearly took one of my Mum's house in your photo of Cobbled Roads ( Conduit Hill ) Rye. We lived in Playden for many years. Famous people? From your region, at Broad Oak, a friend living there taught the Queen how to drive and her husband produced the first TV commercial in England for Gibbs toothpaste, about 1956. Also near Rye, the artist [Arthur] Spencer Roberts we have a painting from, of African wild life. People bumped into---HRH Princess Anne; Kirk Douglas; Milburn Stone ( Doc in Gunsmoke). drinks with Matt Munroe and Errol Brown ( of Hot Chocolate). Jenny Pitman, John Francombe, Joe Mercer in the West Berks region. Keith Chegwin and Angela Rippon in Newbury. Max Clifford at Thame. That'll do I think. |

He lived around the corner from my wife on Gunnesbury Ave. , Ealing Common. My Step Dad might have been famous for making England's first telephone answering machine in 1956 ( for his own companies' use) , but the Shell Book of Firsts incorrectly attributes it to a commercial firm in London in 1959. |
