Some fantastic shots of Beverley Minster in North Yorkshire by Martin and Paul, well worth a look at this underated part of our country, steeped in History.

Beverley Minster has a very fine set of  misericords (early 16th century) as does the Beverley parish church of St. Mary (carved ca. 1445). Both churches are superb and should definitely have a place on any visitor's "must see" list!

One of my favourite places. I stayed in Beverley when I was invited to a wedding once and I loved it there. Felt like I had been there before - really strange feeling of belonging there.

The East Riding of Yorkshire is a lovely area. The Yorkshire Wolds hill country is beautiful, plus it's near to York, one of the great medieval cities of the UK. I'm seriously considering staying in this area on my next trip over.

I've not been to E. Yorkshire, but I agree with you, Rob, York is fabulous.  Beverly looks like a lovely town, with its minster.  I'll be posting some pictures of Wimborne Minster in Dorset, which is about the same vintage as Beverly, but might be a bit smaller.

Stephanie, you said, "Felt like I had been there before - really strange feeling of belonging there." That's what a lot of Americans feel when they go to England.  I felt that way about N. Yorkshire, not really like I'd been there before, but more like I belonged there, it felt comfortable, like home.

Are there any minsters in Lancashire, Michael?

It was a strange feeling Ruth- I even knew where everything was in Beverley - what was round the next corner! It isn't my choice of place to live now although it's lovely - if I had the chance I would live at St David's in Pembrokeshire, Wales. I really feel like I belong there.

I love this picture:

Beverley Minster 6

When you look at these magnificent buildings, do you ever wonder if any we build today will still be standing in 500 or 1,000 years?
