It is an everyday part of English life (and most other places) at least 3 times a day! What am I talking about --------FOOD ------- there are hardly any pictures of any kind of food. Where is the Roast Beef & Yorkshire Pud, Bangers & Mash, Steak & Kidney Pie, Pie Chips & Mushy Peas, tripe & onions, shepherds pie, apple crumble, steamed pudding, old fashions fish & chips in newspaper, winkles, jellied eel, creamed teas, devonshire cream, cheshire cheese, pub lunches, transport cafe liver & onions, Wimbledon strawberries & cream. Then there is the fruit - red/black/white currants, gooseberries, apples (cider), pears, plums, etc. etc. etc. So next time you have English food - how about a photo, for all the drooling ex pats or overseas folks who have no idea what English food is like.We have photos of everything else under the sun (and moon) and no food! I can not believe how many tastes and flavours I am now remembering from childhood. Oh Peter yes, Scones & Jam & Double or clotted cream - ummm heavenly One of our favourite saturday treats was to buy a fresh baked loaf of Hovis, go passed the fishmonger & buy crab and cut the Hovis in big slices filled with the crab, oooooh. Now to further add to my gastronomical misery some more to add: Roast Lamb, new potoatoes, fresh peas and mint sauce, oh oh oh/ Toad in the Hole and Bubble & Squeak. Kippers & Haddock. Cauliflower Cheese. Afternoon Tea with big pot of tea, cucumber/salmon sandwiches, sponge cake, chocolate eclairs, parkin, gingerbread, lardy cakes We definitely need photos, get Mum, girl friend, wife, aunt, grandmother, next door neighbour, or do it yourself, to make some/all/ any of the above, so that you can take a photo (and get a great meal!) |
