It looks like a Water Rat. They are not rats really,they are  members of the Vole family. I could be wrong but sure looks like one to me.

We call these critters muskrats (at least in Michigan).

Thanks Peter, Rob, Vince.  I think I would prefer it if it was a water vole, sounds better than a water rat!  They seem bigger than I had imagined they would, or is it an illusion?

Voles are smaller than house mice but Water Voles are just a little smaller than a Rat.
