Has anyone any valuable hints and tips for a complete amateur photographer (my grand daughter) who has just acquired a Nikon D5000 camera.  She has joined her school camera club, but each type of camera has its own quirks, strengths and weaknesses, so any "inside" information would be most valuable.

Thank you in anticipation.

Is there anything she's particularly interested in taking pics of?  The D5000 is a quite capable camera in its price range with features from the D90 and D300 filtered down to it.  She can read a bit more about it here

Hope she has fun using it and learning along the way. Smile

Thanks for that Paul - I guessed that if anyone answered it would be you. I did give her the Nikon website address so that she could check it out.

I think she is probably a bit young to have decided what specific photos to take at the moment, but at least these days it doesn't matter how often you click it can be deleted if it's of no value other than learning what does and doesn't work.

Along with alot of electronic gadgetry these days there are probably options on the camera which are especially useful and can be used almost all the time and others which need specific conditions to be of any use.  I was hoping for that type of information - the general "all round" type of stuff!

Thanks again Paul for taking the trouble to read the thread and reply.
