I had planned to end this tour at Chalfont St Giles, the home of the poet Milton, with its 13th Century Church, and a Museum, but there are no picsFrown

Sorry I have actually found this particular whistle stop tour difficult to put together as I battled to find pics and do hope that photographers on POE will fill these gaps and that those who know Buckinghamshire can fill in information and lots of suggestions of places to go and what to see.

This tour is really over to you now!!  Please feel totally free to add anything you feel would be of interest and worth a visit in BUCKINGHAMSHIRE

Cliveden house has had quite a notorious history.  It was originally built in 1666 by the 2nd Duke of Buckingham who had been imprisoned  four times in the Tower of London. He also killed the Earl of Shrewsbury in a duel after having an affair with his wife.

In 1740, the first ever performance of Rule Brittania was played here. Having since twice suffered from fire damage and been re-built, it was bought in 1893 by William Waldorf Astor of Waldorf Hotel fame.  It was at Cliveden in 1961 that Secretary of War John Profumo saw Christine Keeler swimming naked in the pool with their relationship ultimately ending in a major scandal for Harold MacMillan’s government.

The 17th Century windmill at BRILL seems to draw visitors, where you can also see the ancient church and old vicarage.

Thanks Paul for the extra information on Cliveden and it's notorious history!

Rob the pictures are great - please would you consider adding where they were taken and a little bit the places.  Many thanks for your input.

Cathy: The first two photos are from Lillingstone Lovell (Little Thatch Cottage) and the last photo is the churchyard at nearby Lillingstone Dayrell.
