There's a very large camper van in the drive of the house that separates them. Phone number went from many years of Broadstone 331 to Broadstone 3331 in the 60s. Oddly, he was still listed in the phone book 20 years after he'd passed away ! I guess whoever survived him at that address never bothered to inform BT thus the phone bills must have been arriving in his name for nearly 2 decades after his death. Maybe as their records now implied he was nearly 110 years old, they got a bit suspicious eventually ???? Prior to 1934, the Rev F C de Beauvais is shown at the Thorne Rectory on the Yeovil telephone exchange. Seems to me the person to ask about that house is Nicholas Mander. Could the house I have posted be The ‘ Thorne Rectory’ in Yeovil? Has Nicholas Mander asked about this house I have posted?? if so, I will email it to him immediately.PS Sorry if have timed out on the post I am up down up down running a hotel here in Zanzibar!!! |

That house isn't in Thorne, a very tiny village north of Yeovil. But we can see it was c.1934 that the Rec F C moved from there to Broadstone and c1952, he then moved two doors away. I thought it was Robin E. who never bothered to notify BT and left the phone account in his fathers name. Perhaps it was c.1982 he moved----say to a nursing home?--- and the phone account was then closed, never revealling it was Robin paying the bill for the past 20 years. I thought you lived in Zanzibar oddly enough. Edited by: Paul Hilton at:17th February 2011 18:48 |

Looks a lot sunnier than England! No personal names mentioned bar Freddie Mercury being born there, and explorers such as Stanley and Livingston get a mention. Besides the main sandy beach photo from Getty library, one of your hotel showing the villas and beach beyond. |

Written by Tom Chesshyre. The photos reminded me of what a friend of mine enjoys doing; traveling the Indian and Pacific Oceans photographing holiday resorts similar to Zanzibar. He left just this morning for Lanzarote' to photograph volcanoes for a change. Here's one of his of Aitutaki lagoon, Cook Islands; similar style to the Zanzibar photo the Times used for the main photo. http://www.panoramio.com/photo/592925 Edited by: Paul Hilton at:19th February 2011 09:37 |

It won't let me see it as I don't suscrible online. Also, scrolling down their site to Life as well, the photo that includes Cherie Blair and actor Simon Callow is on the cover here for your article section.
