Hello all, my name is Steve and I am currently living in Queensland, Australia, with my wife Michelle.  We have recently obtained visas and will be moving to the UK at the end of the year to live and experience life in the northern hemisphere.  Both Michelle and I have been to the UK on previous occasions and love the country (including England, Wales and Scotland), also, the fact that we will be so close to the continent. We are looking to reside in south east England at this stage (roughly in the following areas - Cornwall, Devon, Somerset, Dorset and upto Gloucestershire), that's at this stage!!  Michelle has an exstensive background in being an Executive PA and in Administrative Management.  I have a law enforcement backround in  Policing, Council Regulatory Services and as an RSPCA Inspector.  My wish from this site would ideally be to talk to people (and to stay in contact) and hopefully get ideas from people re work available, employment agencies that are reputable and general suggestions re employment.   You never know who is out there in cyber space and who may read this and be of assistance.  I  have a good feeling about this website, having come across it not so much by accident, but by fate I believe.  So I will start the ball rolling and look forward to chatting to as many of you about our forthcoming adventure. Smile

Hi Steve, welcome to POE (Pictures of England). Sounds like you're off on a wonderful adventure, I can't help regarding houses work ect, but there's usually someone on this site that can lol All I know is that the property down where you would like to live is probably one of the most expensive areas in the UK, but I may be wrong. I live just North of London in Bedfordshire.

Hi Steve, and welcome also to PoE which i'm sure youll find useful in many ways. Of the counties you mention, i'd suspect gloucestershire is proably the cheapest; then Somerset both of which also have two motorway connections M4/M5 for car travel. I'm in police-related work and will PM you later to see if any interest. Both counties I mentioned are about an hour from me and reasonably familiar with them.

Hi Steve and Michelle, welcome to the very best website and forum on the net and good luck with your upcoming adventure here in the UK. Whilst I can't help with your specific request, I know a man who can but only because he also will be looking for another job shortly. Currently he has a rather plush residence in Downing Street in the City of London, has brought this country to it's knee's, tells us to stop wasting food, that he understands how expensive milk, bread, petrol, diesel, gas, electricity, yawnnnn...how long shall I go on for? But the point is he forgets to mention the remuneration that he is currently on, and has been on whilst we peasants make do with handouts like beggars on the streets and/or any third world country that he now also wants to support with our money!! I say get your own house in order first!! When we get rid of him for the BNP, we might finally stand a chance. Apart from that you should just about be in time for Civil War here in the UK, because most of us are sick, sick, sick and b....y sick of what we have to put up with here. Are you sure you are doing the right thing?

Hi Steve:  Welcome from me, too, to POE.  It's an absolutely brilliant website, great folks here.  Sorry I can't help with your England questions, but as the others said, keep in touch and you'll get some leads.  I must say I envy you.

Hi Steve and welcome to the forum.  Denzil is right, knowledgeable fellow that he is, the places you mention are in the South West.  I may be biased but it's much nicer than the South East. Wink  I live in Somerset.

I live in the south east and wish I lived in the south west. Or Wales again, in the west.
