Hi Brian:  Welcome from me too.  What a great project to do for your grandchild.  Take it from someone who's the decendant of European ancestors who left no such record, apart from maybe 2 or 3 generations, it's difficult to trace your heritage, especially if your people are from multiple countries.  Should your grandchild ever take a keen interest in geneaology, this will be a huge head start for her and something she can pass on to her own kids.
