Hello. Thanks for the welcome! May I ask is there a difference between college and university in England. Well, here it has no difference at all. They both mean higher education after finishing high school. Thanks for helping!Smile

Hi Yuri,

The differences between College and University have become blurred over the years here. University normally is a place where one 'reads' for a degree and becomes a Bachelor of Arts or bachelor of Science. further degrees such as Master, and Doctor (PhD) are extensions of study and research and include writing of a thesis or dissertation.

Colleges on the other hand, provider further and higher Education, some diplomas and certificates, which often provide the foundations of a degree course.

As I said, the distinctions become blurred, but both Colleges and Universities provide professional qualifications to students, who may  study full or part time.

I hope that answers your query. If you have any more questions I will be glad to help you!

Wow! That's a quite extensive explanation. Well that cleared things. Here, we have what you call vocational courses. It's not actually for a degree, but a year or two of training so that you'll be skilled for a certain job.

Thanks Debbie, Maria, Ruth and Sue. Well I'm glad that you have been acquainted with some "Filipinos" or "Filipinas" as we call ourselves. Philippines is a tropical country so it's hotter compared to countries like USA and England. But we have a lot of amazing beaches which I think attract tourists most.

By the way, do British people love basketball? I'm just curious because I have this thinking that they are not fond of the sport :)

Hi Yuri - sorry I never got to answer - been busy and haven't been here much lately. Ray answered for me though and explained better than me!

British people play basketball (especially the young people in parks) but is not one of favourite sports. Football (soccer), Rugby and cricket are the favourites here.

England is really famous for soccer. In our country many people are passionate in basketball. Soccer is also played here, but not in the whole country. Well I would probably be hooked myself in soccer especially if you all have like David Beckham as players. lol!

There are a lot of Festivals in England, I suppose from what I've been seeing in the internet. How long does a common festival last?

Thank you Cathy for the welcome.
