Hi to everyone. I'm Yuri from the Philippines (no idea? check your mapSmile) 21 years old and a university student taking up secondary education. I love everything about England ~ great sceneries, massive infrastructures, the SNOW, old castles. I hope I could find a lot of friends here in this site who can help me to know more about this country.

Anyways, tomorrow will be the start of our classes and I'm excited about it. How about in England, what month is the start of the university classes?

Welcome to the site Yuri! The start of university classes here after summer is usually October (with colleges and schools starting September) - they finish for summer around May time at university (June/July for colleges and schools July).

Hello. Thanks for the welcome! May I ask is there a difference between college and university in England. Well, here it has no difference at all. They both mean higher education after finishing high school. Thanks for helping!Smile

Hi Yuri,

The differences between College and University have become blurred over the years here. University normally is a place where one 'reads' for a degree and becomes a Bachelor of Arts or bachelor of Science. further degrees such as Master, and Doctor (PhD) are extensions of study and research and include writing of a thesis or dissertation.

Colleges on the other hand, provider further and higher Education, some diplomas and certificates, which often provide the foundations of a degree course.

As I said, the distinctions become blurred, but both Colleges and Universities provide professional qualifications to students, who may  study full or part time.

I hope that answers your query. If you have any more questions I will be glad to help you!

Hi Yuri:  I already welcomed you on the other thread, but here's your "official" welcome.  I have many friends who are from the Philippines (I'm in Arizona, USA).  Keep coming around to POE, you will love it here.

Hello Yuri, and welcome to POE.

I too have friends from the Philippines, and I had a really super chat to a lovely lady living there when I called to get my Dell computer sorted out. She was lovely, didn't solve my computer problem, but we had a really good talk (two hours I believe).

So, I hope you enjoy visiting here on POE, we look forward to getting to know you.
