I started in 1951 and took early retirement in 1981 when new and pleasurable Horizons beckoned!! Played Bowls outdoors since 1967 and Indoors from 1973. Would welcome contact from any ex Pru Staff or form the world of Bowls. I never won anything of note apart from club competitions but as I've always said I started bowling in 1967 and never improved since! Always enjoyed it though and the cameraderie provided. Became fairly involved with Bowls administration both at local club and County level which also gave me a lot of pleasure. Sadly because of Arthritis I do not play any more but still retain my interest in the game through all my friends. I enjoy driving for days and meals out but glad to come back home each evening nowadays as I regard the chore of arranging and going on holiday for any length of time have become joys of the past!

The Pru. (short for Prudential) was/is a household name for an insurance company. Bowls is a game played on lawn (grass, outdoors) or carpet. You can play crown green, (which is a lawn with grass cut and rolled very short). The 'crown is usualy in the centre giving a slight raise. The object of the game is to beat your opponants by getting your bowls (Black wooden balls) nearest the Jack (usually a small white ball). you can use the 'crown' in the green to outwhit your opponant. Panal bowls (as opposed to crown green bowls), is played along panals or strips, on grass or indoor carpet This is a simplified explantion but I'm sure you get the idea. Lol |

Debbie might be a bit more familiar with one of Sir Francis Drake's decendants which, on his mother's side, was Buddy Holly; far better known for his place in rock and roll history rather than bowls, of course. |
