Stephanie, I'd love to know when my branch of the Wheelers stepped from the shores of England for the New World. I know my brother did quite a bit of geneological research but I'm not sure what he ever came up with. |

The name is particularly common on the Isle of Wight; on the mainland it is concentrated in the neighboring region of central southern England. Emma Wheeler mentioned in 1841 431-859 Wheeler names in the state of New York in 1840, pus a few less in Penn. Between the problems in America and the problems in Britain, I'm not sure whether I should be pleased or upset that my relatives emigrated. I suppose there are always good and bad parts to any country and the grass is always greener as they say. My plan is to hit the lottery and split my time between the two. I think I prefer the humor, attitude and way of thinking that is considered typically English far more than a do that which is typically American - and there are stark differences. But it's difficult to beat the American 'can do' thinking as well. Sorry, I'm rambling on but it's Monday a.m. and the coffee hasn't really kicked in yet. |
