Hello folks. I'm Ainol, from Malaysia but in Birmingham for the next two years. On a study trip, with my family. Malaysia is beautiful, as anyone can see from the pictures posted on websites and magazines. But since I came here in September, I've a lot about England that is beautiful too. Like the way the clouds flit across the sky ever so swiftly, and the undulating plains one sees travelling along motorways.... I like the countryside here and that's one of the reasons I joined Picture of England. But another is to improve my photography skills. I am a beginner. Just upgraded myself from a Nikon Digital S220 to a Canon EOS450D. So I need and want all the advice all of you out there can give me. Like how to take pictures of the snow scenes without too much brightness and yet  not losing out on the kids making snowmen!!!. Things like that. So, here's to having fun and taking amazing photographs in England :)

Hello and welcome Ainol. I do not live too far from Birmingham near Dudley. I hope you enjoy your stay in England.

I have a Nikon D60 camera - my advice to you is "trial and error"! There are alot of very knowledgeable people on this site who I'm sure can give you brilliant technical advice especially if you start a thread in one of the photography tips sections on the forum. Personally I am not very technically minded so I tend to take lots of photos from lots of different angles and on different settings and pick the ones which I like the best. By making mistakes I find that I discover something new about my camera every day and that is the beauty of digital photography - that you can afford to make those mistakes and then delete them! Glad to hear that you have such a love of England and photography and I look forward to seeing your pictures.

If you happen to get anywhere near Newcastle, Sunderland area, let me know when you will be up this way as I am minutes from there. There are alot of historic bldgs etc up this way and you & family may find this area very interesting for a variety of reasons...educational, fun, scenic, great photo opportunities, etc.

Look forward to seeing you on here more often.

Thank you Beth for the lovely invite. As I am still discovering England, I am planning my list of places to visit and I shall include Newcastle too now. Of course I'll give you a shout out when I plan to visit your neck of the woods. Right now trying to figure out a good place to visit during the weekend. Taking into consideration the current weather we're having, we'd like it to be a max 2 hr day trip drive from Birmingham to wherever. If anyone out there has a suggestion, feel free to post it to me. Thank you and cheers all.

Ainol, Diana has already spent time in England also. I loved her company, she really is a lovely lady BUT, then it all went wrong. Diana let it be known that she likes cats!!! OMG, they do their 'business' in everybody's garden but their own!! Aaaaagh! It's terrible, it's smelly, it's pathogenic suicide, it ruins your vegetables and these lovely ladies love these animals that resemble the devil...that is, if you look into their eye's. Don't be hoodwinked into loving cats Ainol.....

Go on, now tell me you have a cat too...
