I paint pictures in oils and my favourite subject is landscape. I feel very privileged to live in Surrey, England and enjoy the views of the unspoilt countryside. I believe that Mother Nature is a far better artist than I will ever be and get an immense pleasure from studying and attempting to copy her creations. It would be great if I can find some photographs of the English country side in this forum that I can use as subjects for my own paintings. I am not sure if this is allowed under the copyright rules so perhaps someone can put me right on this? Looking forward to my journey through the forum. Brian

I agree that the photos of England on POE are wonderful, and many are very paintable. I also paint and when I find a photograph that really inspires me I contact the photographer and request permission to use their photograph as a basis for my painting. If I am unable to contact them, then I will not use the photograph without their permission. But so far, those that I have been able to get in touch with have been most gracious with giving their permission. The photographer has the copyright for their photos, and it is perhaps wise not to copy the photo exactly, rather use a part of it, or add your own touches! And of course offer to show them the finished artwork. There is a tour on POE for "Paintings of England" so you can upload a photo of your painting for us all to see. Do join us in the forums, as well as browsing the photographs, they are great fun. |
