It is more fun now that I am going round to places for the second (or more) time and just re-photographing. I can actually enjoy my own walks without going miles out of my way to discover that what I was after wasn't worth the effort after all. Then there are the buildings that are being restored and have to be re-visited. How my heart sinks when I see the dreaded scaffolding and plastic sheeting covering something I need to snap! |

Why? Because our skirts were short and the passengers in the tube trains were too squashed and as this is a family site I wont describe the trials and tribulations, lol. |

Yes, I had the same issue when we visited Salisbury Cathedral. I was so disappointed that one side of the cathedral was completely shrouded in scaffolding and plastic. I thought it was just bad timing on our part to be there during the work. But then I found out that it was a 30-YEAR restoration project, I think, begun in 1986 and due for completion in 2016. That fact in itself was amazing to me, but given tha scope of work, I guess not too unexpected. Then when really started to contemplate the size of the building and how long it's been standing (700+ years - a mind boggling thought in itself), and the incredible amount of expense and work involved in its O&M, it made me feel happy that there are people who've cared enough over the centuries to make sure these magnificent structures didn't fall to ruin (Henry the VIII being the exception, of course). A bit of trivia that I learned about it - the water table under Salisbury Cathedral is only 4 feet below the ground surface.
