Happy to have the chance to introduce myself to the members of POE. You certainly appear to be a group of talented, supportive, and friendly people who enjoy photographing this beautiful and historical country. Stumbled upon this site some months ago. Best stumble I ever had.

I'm a fellow with a fair amount of CM(chronological maturity..if no other) - 81 years. First trip to England was in Dec. '54. Took one month's  Army leave from USA before discharge early '55 to see Europe. London was the first stop. One day while looking for King Richard's Chapel, and looking totally lost, a man walked up to me, tipped his hat and asked if he could be of help.  He actually took me to the chapel! What a kind thing to do, and so opposite from what I heard about the English character. Met other English folks who enforced my good feelings for the people of this country.

Started biking in '87 with a group in my area(Newark, Delaware, USA), and we bike toured in England two times. Wonderful, enjoyable, and interesting tours. Can't find my pictures though.

Planned a two week bike tour in the Cotswolds for June '91 after retiring from Dupont(chemical engineer) and visiting a daughter temporarily working in London. The two weeks turned into a five or six affair. While biking down a country road I went through a two foot wide one inch deep patch of water. After waking up after the spill, I found my upper left leg disconnected from the rest of me. Shortly a car came along, a man in horse riding gear checked me out and went back to the pub to call for an ambulance. Three women walkers stopped and one gave me her address where I could pick up my bike. They all waited with me until the ambulance arrived! I was taken to Cheltenham General Hospital and received the best medical treatment and care by the most able and kind people. Incidentally, I picked up my bike at what looked like a beautiful manor type house.

I now have a Panasonic DMC-2Gk. It weighs half as much as my Canon 7D, which was just too heavy for me to lug around. Of course the G2 will not have the image quality of the 7D. Use Photoshop CS5 to "develop" my images, and as necessary, make up for a multitude of photographic sins.

I will not physically bike tour in England again, but I will certainly mentally do so through the wonderful pictures posted by all of you. Thank you for your efforts and good work.

Great introduction Bob and yes, a brilliant website with a forum that will discuss anything that is family friendly. We are a family here at POE and welcome you to that family. You have already said that you stumbled upon the site months ago so now enjoy it and it's members, of which you are now part. Welcome from Anna and Ron.

I just felt I should highlight this brilliant introduction from Bob. Doesn't it just say it all about POE?

Thanks again Bob...

Hi Bob:  I love the CM.  :-)

Those sound like great vacations that you had there in Old Blighty.  Our last one was a year ago this month.  I love it there too.  I'm in Arizona, BTW, but originally from Pennsy.
