I really think I should of been born in England. I was there for 3 years, and I loved living there. I lived close to Birmingham. To me England has the most beautiful country side. The little villages and the pubs are so great. I am planning on visiting England and I want to go to Surrey. I heard that was beautiful there. I am really going to enjoy seeing pictures of all the little towns in England. Talking to some of the nice english people that are there. Wish I was there, myself. I am blessed to be able to join this site. With Warm Regards, Deeann Yon USA, Lake City, Florida Would love to hear from anyone in England. You can contact me via the POE 'Contact Member' facility in my Profile.

I also wish I'd been born there as my father was. But I'm here in California where I was born. I'm sure our august moderator Ron Brind will soon be round to greet you as well as other English members. Afraid I'm just a plain ole American. I think that England is the most beautiful land in the world. And has the kindest people. I experienced their kindness as a teenager many years ago. My husband and I hope to make the trip across in 2012. Again, a hearty welcome to the site! |

There are many many pictures here to whet your interest of all things UK, also you will find a great deal of history and information here plus of course lots of chat here in the forums. As for Surrey that you talked about, I am Surrey born and bred and been here for sixty years apart for a break of seven years when I lived in West Sussex. Having said that I am known here on POE for my affinity to Cornwall ( I am as I say Cornish by self adoption ). Living and working in Surrey all this time maybe I overlook all that is around me as I go about my daily , but you can see quite a few of my photos of the Surrey area here on POE. You are quite right when you say it can be expensive here, in fact today on the wireless they announced that the most expensive road to live in outside of London is here in Oxshott Surrey where the average house price is over three million pounds !!! I hasten to add that I do not live in or near that road. What to see here, well in the north is Hampton Court Palace where King Henry VIII resided by the River Thames, Further into Surrey the high ground of Box Hill and Leith Hill give great views and at Dorking is Denbies Vineyard is maybe the largest in England. You will find dotted about many grand houses most in the hands of the National Trust and open to the public. There are a few castles such as at Guildford and Farnham, but as you seem keen you will find many quaint villages with their pubs and churches all over and I hope you enjoy your research and then your visit. As I have said Cornwall is my favourite place but I must admit to loking forward to Dave Johns favourite spot the Lake District which I will be visiting during 2012. Once again Welcome and do enjoy yourself here. |
